New teaching path "Microworlds" at Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg
The PlantMicrobe teaching path guides visitors through the garden starting May 2024.
24.05.2024
At a total of nine stations, visitors get to know the fascinating interplay between plants and microbes. The TRR356 path “Microworlds: On the trail of plant-microbe interactions” leads through the outdoor areas from the crop plants section, over to the ecological-genetic section, and finally to the Alpinum. Thereby, the path appeals to a wide audience, ranging from well-known plants like tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum), chili peppers (Capsicum frutescens), and cabbage (Brassica oleracea), to fewer familiar species such as dwarf birch (Betula nana) or yellow mountain-avens (Dryas drummondii).
At different stations, visitors learn more about arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis, the advantages of root nodules, natural defence mechanisms of plants, and sustainable farming practices behind the concept of Milpa. One highlight is the new raised bed in the ecological-genetic section, which allows visitors during guided tours to see underground and explore various root nodules.
The path offers an English translation via QR codes as well as audio content for more detailed information.
We look forward to your visit!
